Introducing a new protagonist means starting all over, but without even a character you knowYou cannot compare the anime to One Piece, Dragon Ball, Naruto, Bleach, or any other shounen series because it is not a shounen series. Shounen series end and target adolescent boys. Pokémon is MEANT to last forever because that helps keep the popularity of the franchise afloat. Yes, you can have better anime stories, but keep in mind this anime is purposely targeting a different demographic.
Also just gonna throw this out there, but Special/Adventures isn't that good.
