It was absolutely kino and based.
As a long time fan of [spoilers]Kanto[\spoilers], I can definitely say I clapped. I clapped when I spotted the Squirturtle, and Bulbasaurus, and Charlizard, and Pikachu. I got so excited, I just stood up and yelled "KANTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" at the top my lungs right then and there in the theatre. I couldn't help myself; I even almost dropped my onions, but the child next to me caught it. I didn't know the rest of the Pokemon though :P but Death Pool as Pikachu was epic and so ugu~~ kawaii desu ne <333.
I got all the references, except for the ones that I didn't because the movie promotes toxic gatekeeping and excludes me personally from the being inside the loop by referencing the newer games.
Making Ash black was a choice I approve of (eat your heart out internet trolls)! There are enough white characters in the cartoon, this is a movie for the new inclusive generation of Pokedestined! SORRY, but Pokemon isn't for you old nostalgic boomers anymore.
When that studio executive handed me that big wad of cash before the screening, I just knew this movie was going to be something special. I felt a sudden sense of relief knowing that I could confidently tell Reddit that it was going to be a Masterpiece.
