You know that following Pokemon are probably optional, right?
They simply chose to not show any of the Pokemon following the trainers in the SS trailer.

it's me again, I will save you troubles, we think following pokemon should be special thing like for remakes, we wanted include them in USUM due to anniversary but we hit our limits with the console, in let's go it was too late, but the game is patchable which will never happen due to inside decisions [pokemon data are in]
