If you want to do the middle of the game slightly out of order, you're free to do that. I always face Blaine before Sabrina because I can, and I appreciate the option.
Yes, it's cool using new Pokemon when the new games come out. But I'm never going to play a Gen VII game again, because there's simply too much dumb bullshit, and it's been that way ever since Gen IV. (even HG/SS weren't immune, forcing the kimono girls and the box legendary on you for no reason)
