It is quite good, at least competatively.
No idea about how it fares in-game but it has one weakness and a large movepool so I'm sure it's fine.

A-Grimer is amazingly good until around Ula'ula island, where it becomes just okay at best and begins to fade hard. Then it evolves and becomes a beast again and stays that way until the end.

wrong it's still better since you can use a SD+Z move combo to unleash a 100% acc nuke, also STAB Sucker Punk
They're biggest mistake was removing Hone Claws from the TMs

Glad Muk got some justice in Gen VII. I always wanted to use him, but it was difficult to carve a spot for him on teams pre-Gen VI at least. After using Drapion, I realized how good defensively Poison/Dark was. Seeing A. Grimer/Muk's new typing made him a must have, (in USUM since I wanted to use more brand new mons when I played regular Sun).

I used an Alola-Muk on my Ultra Sun team, and it was really good.

Granted, I also bred Curse and Shadow Sneak onto mine, but it'd probably be good even without those. I guess a Ghost-type attack isn't necessary because Alola-Muk no longer has a Psychic weakness but, with Poison Touch, Shadow Sneak is SO GOOD for putting poison onto enemies quickly.
