usually monsters are still fairly animalistic as it is the literal definition of an organism comprised of eukaryotic cells
most pokemon by this definition are still considered animals with obvious exceptions like object and plant mons
the thing is that even though many organic monsters aren't considered to be animals, they are still animals and it also helps when their biology looks consistent and less exaggerated(which is basically giving them "animalistic" features)
the lines between monster and animal are very blurred so that's a relatively weak defense for why they shouldn't retain certain features
also animals don't exist in the pokemon world so would that make most pokemon animals or people pokemon?
