Even though X and Y's rivals were meh, I really liked the idea of traveling the region as a group. This could've worked really well if the rivals were given more screentime and personality.

Underpowered/"joke" Pokemon (think Dunsparce, Unown, Regigigas) are required and don't need buffs/evolutions/megas, as there are far too many Pokemon for every single one of them to be viable.
