It's an incredibly handholdy remake that excludes the most iconic feature of the region they take place in, with bad redesigns and obnoxious cutscenes sprinkled throughout.

If you could look at them in a vacuum they would undoubtedly be considered good games, but they just do not live up to the expectations.

Extremely easy, even easier than the original ruby/sapphire

handholding + unskippable cutscenes that add very little to the story

mega evolution gimic that was only given to certian mons and made your starter even more overpowered

free latios/latias also with a mega stone

lots of cut content from emerald like no frontier.

Compared to the HG/SS remakes which added the safari zone + poke athalon + battle frontier

delta episode was the only new added thing and it was only like 40 minutes

soaring around hoenn could have been done better as well

awful sprites/art style compared to original gen 3

music was much worse as well compared to gen 3

it was just a lazy remake overall

They did a lot of things right, being able to properly fly over hoenn was really nice actually made the world feel like an open world, the new mauville city is really great, expanded diving areas and diver trainers are great, reduced encounter rate when surfing is great, sharpedo surfing is a nice feature, etc.

I just wish they weren’t solely ruby/sapphire remakes, emerald was such an improvement over ruby/sapphire; better plot, had a lot more double battles, rematches, gym leaders were more challenging, and of course muh battle frontier, they could have incorporated emerald like HGSS incorporated crystal into their remake, it’s a shame really they’d be great remakes otherwise.

youre retarded. look at gen 4. D/P are considered pretty bad for a number of reasons yet Platinum and HGSS are considered among the best in the franchise.

I only like them because they were the base for Rising Ruby and Sinking Sapphire. Romhacks that were the most fun I've ever had with the franchise. On their own they're meh. Not the best, but, definitely not the worst in the series.

The water routes are still in ORAS, you just have to not stop before the 6th gym

A weird thing they did that no one ever mentions is that they advertised the trainer horde battles in the trailers, which could have been the chance for something new and dare I say challenging, and the final product has a grand total of TWO.
This is honestly the biggest sin they committed, why even bother?

Casualized garbage with close to zero effort outside a graphics boost in remaking them

Could have been the best pokemon game if
>pokemon variety was boosted from the start instead of very late in the game
>battle frontier etc
>Was not easy to the point of it being insulting, it's not even babby's first pokemon, it's the tutorial demo
>No free latias and op contest pikachu, or at least make the latias soar only instead of here's your free 0 effort legendary please understand
>not being able to feed unlimited amounts of pokeblocks to pokemon, making it require an effort on your part rather than just farming berries to win with your use this to win-pokemon the game pushed onto you so you don't really have to do anything at all
>Bringing the game more up to date rather than just being a gba game in3d with two gimmics
>Bring back safari zone
>Make it so that every trainer you fight against does not have brain problems, they just hand you the victory outright

You’re retarded. These games took the best mechanics from XY and combined it with the absolute greatest QOL feature, I.e. Dexnav, creating the best Pokémon game mechanic wise to ever be. And it still hasn’t been replaced.
