Spin-offs don't sell that well, and between the anime, movies, and all the merchandise, Pokemon has more than enough material to keep people engaged between games.

The anime is a commercial designed to sell merchandise to very young Japanese Children.
The movies are the same thing as the anime with the added benefit of being paid Mythical distributions in Japan.
There's barely any merch worth giving a shit about that won't expose your powerlevel aside from barebones Kanto stuff, and even THEN it needs to be limited to "all 151" or the usual suspects to avoid powerlevel exposure.
