Assuming Pokemon are real, you'd still be the same person you are in a world without one (the real world we're living in right now). While there might be some people with different motivations and drives depending on this change (like, say someone inclined to look after a pet would raise a few Pokemon they liked), at the end of the day, you would have your own same personality, drives, and motivations as in the real world. So assuming all that, you'd likely be at the same place you currently are, only this time either with Pokemon or none at all, in the same way some people have pets and some don't.
A lot of people seem to get the implication that being "the NPC with a shitmon" is a bad thing, but in reality it's an average, stable life. Are you a celebrity like Diantha or a hero like Brendan? No, but if life's good the way it is now, life should be just as good when you're living an average joe life with a few mons of your choice.
The harsh tone of OP might've made some people feel that way, but it's a (not so cold and harsh) truth that in most cases, people'd have a similar mentality regardless of certain, non-life threatening outside forces (in this case, Pokemon instead of animals). If you don't hike hours a day for leisure or fun, you likely wouldn't have much fun hiking hours a day to reach the next town with your Pokemon.
