Firstly, it was Morimoto who said they'd used Zodiac in Gen I+II for pokémon creation. Secondly, we KNOW Game Freak re-use creative inspirations. Heck, out of 8 fire starters 5 fit and 3 don't. For one of them they outright ignore absolutely every element of its design and names and base it entirely on a localization choice from two decades ago (kinda miss that age's translations) for the fucking pokémon category.
