In terms of gameplay, Pokémon are fairly close to the levels that they evolve at when you catch them, movesets aren't retarded like early games, and TMs are reusable. These changes alone are great for the experience. Also, up until a certain point, HMs serve as ways to get bonuses and exploration.
B2/W2 are pure kino and if you're into postgame, you could play that game for a very long time. Story is okay, region is a bit more fleshed out.
X/Y are largely forgettable and easy as Hell. Every advancement that was made in gen 5 feels reverted, even though that isn't entirely true. Pokémon designs are fine. Story is big dumb.
OR/AS are outclassed by Emerald, you are not missing much. The only thing that OR/AS do well is the post game episode, but it ends.
Sun and Moon are literally just betas for US/UM.
US/UM are pretty good, but the region is a themepark instead of an actual adventure.
