Anyway, the furry bait will be shilled like Incineroar to boost plush sales.

The water mon will be the comic relief in anime because of its anxiety meme.

The grass starter gonna be great in the games but not popular.

Underdog is a mon that eventually becomes the popular one and/or good, while neglected achieves neither.

Rabbit is going to be shilled. Most fire type starters are, especially in the anime.

Grook nukem will probably be the underdog but could also end up being rejected. Same goes for Sad Lizard. Rabbit is the only one I'm confident on.

In your post, i consider the grass the underdog and the water starter the neglected. Also I agree, Scorbunny is obviously the shilled.

Bulbasaur has been shilled in the anime and manga as well but Charizard shilling was way more that you wouldn't notice.

I think they tried to make it Chikorita since Ash had a Bayleef and Cyndaquil and Totodile never evolved, but I don't think any of them ever reached any massive popularity.

Chikorita was on the logo of one of Pokemon Center in Japan at one point, but then again, Japan voted her as the worst and most useless starter. So Idk if they really like her or not.

Ash had Sceptile and it was shilled so hard.
Also Grovyle was the star of PMD Explorers game.

Blaziken and Sceptile are actually equally shilled, which was the only time TPC chose to shill two starters.

Looking back I think the gen 2 starters were just in the shadow of the gen 1 starters. Remember Ash went to Johto with all 3 and merchandise still pushed them heavily. In general gen 2 as a whole lived in the shadow of gen 1 for this reason. I think with RSE they figured out how to better ballance the new and old. A lot of the shilled gen 2 Pokemon were also not starters like Scizor, Marill, the babbies, and Togepi.

Shilled: Scorbunny for sure. Futbol theme and fast rabbit appeal to a lot of people.

Underdog: Sobble. It may be weak and timid now, but Pokemon like this typically have a strong side. Wimpod, Bonsly, Magikarp, Wishiwashi, Cosmog. Pokemon that look weak and pathetic eventually become powerhouses after they evolve.

Neglected: Grookey. Nobody gives a shit about another grass monkey.
