They might as well be data that came to life. isnt it actually canon that all pokemon have the ability to convert into matter which is why they can be stored in pokeballs and PCs to begin with?

The games never really delve into how the Storage System works. Meanwhile, the anime's canon is that the Pokemon aren't actually stored in PCs, but transported electronically, and it's rarely ever said where they go. For Ash at least, the Pokemon are sent to Oak's lab.
