>>38333160I was a young kid at the end of the '90s so I think from the beginning me getting super into Pokémon then was seen as normal/acceptable compared to if I were older. I never personally experienced any sort of moral panic about it being satanic or violent or anything, not even from other people's parents.
My mother wasn't, like, interested in it, but she also didn't hate the show or me watching it or anything. She bought me Pokémon stuff and took me to the movies and stuff like that.
My father did the same sort of things, but he did watch the early anime on his own and seemed to sort of find it interesting. He knew a lot of Pokémon names and anime episodes and generally how the universe was supposed to work etc. He didn't get involved with anything besides the show though like the games or TCG though-- not that he hated me having those either, I just don't think he ever wanted to stare at a tiny poorly lit Gameboy screen.
My dad's dead now and my mother doesn't know I'm still into it. Really I sort of get in and out of following Pokémon stuff every few years, so while I do like it, it's not a major part of my everyday life. She does seem to look back positively on the whole craze, because if she sees Pokémon merch when I'm with her she's like "look, it's Pikachu!" Though I think Pikachu might be the only Pokémon she still knows/recognizes anyway.
I've been pretty lucky in that area, I guess.
