>>38349540The movie looks reasonably enjoyable and unassuming, especially given Rob Letterman's previous directorial outings. The movie will be fun and adventurous but the human element likely won't be on the same caliber as the special effects, it'll either lack pathos or become awash with sentimentality.
The character designs are growing on me personally, they seem too much on the cartoonish side to dip down into the uncanny valley, with the odd exception, such as Aipom.
All in all, this approach seems like a safe bet for Pokémon's first foray into live action. It'll be successful, which hopefully will lead to live action Pokémon movie adaptations outside of Detective Pikachu that truly deserve it, such as a Colosseum/Gale of Darkness movie in the style of Sergio Leone.
