Free wheel effects flying everywhere plus the every turn draw effect that is based on current handsize keeps your options open constantly and doesn't punish players for overextending (not that that matters when you can use your once-a-turn free draw 7 trainer card or a mass tutor).
I don't play this game and even I know there's effective ways of playing multiple energies per turn or to juggle cards around so you're always rolling Pokemon into play stacked with energy.
So, it's poorly designed with a clear deck design path for every single deck. They try to mitigate their poor power-level checking by creating prize cards and HP that remains from turn to turn in order to create a harsh choke point.
It's like watching two tuned rally cars race in 1st gear. It's fucking awful.
