The first attempt ended with a Shiny Krokorok instead
crying because there was an especially long drought of Golett before it showed up and the first thing it called while I was weakening it was a Golett, which is also pretty cool to be fair.
Outside of this chain, the most recent was a Beldum in Platinum, which I was hunting for my Frontier team. I initially just started the hunt by Radar so I could catch as many as possible and compare their stats, but then when I found myself getting to reasonably high chains anyway, I just went all in and hunted a Shiny. (Rather amusingly, the resulting Shiny was the first Beldum I caught that ended up with a +Attack nature anyway!) I just used my Master Ball because I figured there was absolutely nothing harder to catch than a Shiny Beldum and it wasn't worth the risk... but actually, the color contrast between the Master Ball and Shiny Metagross is surprisingly appealing anyway, though I'd have preferred it in an Ultra Ball. Probably never sending it up to Gen VI because everyone has Shiny Metagross now, but I might use it in Gen V for the PWT/Subway once I have all of the Gold Prints (if I ever do, that is - so far I have five Silver but no Gold, though I did get SUPER close in the Castle with this team).
I've failed a couple of Radar chains in Platinum (the closest was a Shellos at 39...), but I think there's only ever been one time when I actually *found* a Shiny and failed to catch it - a Safari Zone Murkrow in HeartGold. On the bright side, I wasn't actually looking for a Shiny then to begin with - it was completely random - and, of all things, my non-Shiny Honchkrow was my favorite Pokémon then, so I had no intention of replacing it. Of all of the Shinies I could have failed to catch, I think Murkrow was probably the least upsetting, haha.
Ultra Sun at the moment (for Golett), but I usually hunt in Platinum for the Radar - it's much more fun!
