Why modern Pokemon anime lacks any detail or actual shading? It looks so bland, dull and running on budget.
Even the Pokemon look like they were drawn in 2 minutes as quick doodles.

Didn't say it was close, I said from an artist's perspective I understand why they went that way, it's more rounded and soft features and palettes/shading/etc. which is reminiscent of Ghibli, Disney, etc. It's something kids prefer, which is why toddler and kids shows often have such round and circular features rather than hard angular ones. You should bother comprehending what you're reading next time instead of lashing out like a child.

I only just started watching it but i think they just simplified the humans and pokemon to allow for the meme faces. Having such a simple base character design definitely makes it alot easier to shift into the crazy over the top reactions they're going for with SM.
So i think they had the idea to do the memefaces first and then adapted the style of animation to accommodate it rather than simplifying it being their main objective.
I don't think any of the characters looks bad other than Ash whenever his mouth is shut; he looks fine whenever he's talking or smiling.
Also the environments are all gorgeous.

If the model was used and left there intentionally, why wouldn't they have done the same for other background characters?
It being an isolated error makes far more sense than someone going fuck it i'm not drawing this one pokemon out of everything else i've drawn

If there's any reason, it's either because they decided they wanted to change the style and this is what they decided on, or because they realised they can spend less on animation and still get the same sales (given that One Piece looks like crap but still sells great)

I think they're comparable, besides removal of details on characters. Trees are bit better in SM desu. Both have derpy construction or perspective of characters and SM is just flat.

We'd need red line in order to investigate it.

Yeah the simpler character designs makes it easier to draw the characters on model which is a plus for animation. And also with the simpler design makes scenes like in the link more special.

simpler =/= better especially when it’s not in motion. The simpler art styles are made specifically with animation in mind, not for stills, which is what I and the other anon were arguing about. It looks like fanart and the character proportions and facial features stray too far from the original settei sheets.

And just an fyi, the link with Golisopod has a high amount of detail put into it. Literally the only thing in that entire scene that lacked significant shading and detail was Ash, and that has more to do with his redesign than anything else.
