>>38375746Serena is unironically the best developed Pokegirl of the anime and anyone who says she isn't are just jealous of her because their Pokegirl didn't get the kind of development that she did so now they're just seething.

Sure she started out crushing on Ash, but to define her by that is really just a superficial reading of her character. Rather her immediate attachment to Ash is meant to signal to the audience just how empty and lost she really is. She comes to this realization herself and it slowly begins to dawn on her that she was using Ash as a crutch all along.
When she realizes this is when she truly starts to begin loving Ash genuinely for himself, its only when she could step out of his shadow and form her own identity that she feels confident enough to stand alongside him as a fellow equal rather than as an idol and her girlish projection of him as an escape.
Even if XY didn't have the kino battles or a competant Ash, it would still stand leagues above the other Pokemon seasons simply for having the best, most relatable and most nuanced character in the whole anime that is Serena.
If you don't like Serena, you're the ones who allowed yourself to get blinded by shippingfaggotry, not the other way around.
Never have we ever had a Pokemon character that faced an existensial crisis before
Just look at the her breakdown scene, never before have we had such a kino scene in all of Pokémon, none of the Pokegirls ever had this scene, not your precious Misty or even Dawn or May.
