Unovachad here, Platinum is the sole reason Gen 4 stands out. HGSS is just a flawed remake that fixes nothing of the flawed originals. Also the Gen 3 is obsolete thanks to Based Gen IV.

You still can't finish the national dex in any of the gens after 3 without having to wait for nintendo to release shilled event legendaries that you download or some other external way of getting the other mons (ranch and dream world/radar).
I'll agree to the addition of wifi and the gts as a way more accessible way to finish the dex but I'd say gen 3 has the best way to finish logging the dex

I am certain this isn't the case. If you're talking about the Battle Castle, the gimmick there is that your pokemon are not healed in between battles.
