...What's up with Tangela?
Besides Farfetch'd which is a joke character, Porygon and Ditto which are gimmicks and Mew who's legendary, all single stage gen 1 pokemon have a mature fully realized appearance and some sort of stand out property in game, but Tangela... WTF? It's just sort of there.
At most you could say it's unique because it's exclusive to that one obscure patch of grass and the fact that its the only pure grass its surely incidental and not much too brag about anyway.
Flavorwise it adds nothing, it barely looks like a plant and Tentacruel already covers the tentacle monster motif.
I think it would be fine if it was a regular common pokemon that evolves into something more substantial but by making it a single stage and so rare one would think there would be a bit more to it.
