252+ SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Solar Beam vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Gyarados-Mega: 266-314 (67.5 - 79.6%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

I even gave the M-Gyara max bulk for kicks since I don't know its spread. Jesus, are there any high ELO players around here who can actually engage in an actual discussion instead of spewing out nonsense.

You obviously don't play 1v1. DD on turn 1 without mega evoing is standard play.

Read to whom I was replying to. He mentioned that the "correct play" was to Mega evolve turn 1. I showed him the calc which showed how foolish his comment was. Yes, it 2HKOs if he mega evolves or else it won't, provided the opponent is running that said spread.

Such a classy comment. Sounds like low ladder scum to me. My recommended play is to dragon dance in regular IF he's running max bulk on gyarados and then waterfall him for the 2HKO on zard-Y.

In case anyone else have trouble understanding the English language or just suck at battling as a whole, allow me to recap on his opponent could have won. Keep in mind that this is assuming gyara has max bulk invested.

Turn 1 - Dragon Dance without M-evolving thus outspeed zard-y.
Turn 2 - Waterfall for the 2HKO (30% to flinch as well) as zard-y's solar beam is a 3HKO on regular gyara.

Conclusion: Don't Mega Evolve and DD turn 1 for the waterfall sweep.

Yes. He was not running max bulk on gyara so it would still be a 2HKO regardless if he mega evolves or not. He also didn't account for the max defense investment on zard-y.
