This is a legitimate gripe. The fact that Regirock, Regice and Registeel is event-only in Gen 4 makes it impossible to complete the Pokédex in Gen 4 using only Gen 4 games unless just so happened to make this event all the way back in 2008/2009.

This is a legitimate gripe. The fact that Regirock, Regice and Registeel is event-only in Gen 4 makes it impossible to complete the Pokédex in Gen 4 using only Gen 4 games, unless just you so happened to make this event all the way back in 2008/2009.

Everyone had the gen 3 games when gen 4 came out. It was assumed you would transfer them from Hoenn.

There was no thought involved here. You need an event Regigigas to get the other three Regis so you can capture a level 1 Regigigas.

They are available on BW2 in Underground Ruins, but you have to use the Key system to get both Regirock and Regice, and I think you need to have both of them to get Registeel.

They're not available in other DS games without events or trading.

This isn't *quite* accurate. Both games start with Regirock; after Regirock, you unlock the Key for Regice (W2) or Registeel (B2) automatically, so all you have to do to catch that one is go to the menu; and THEN you need to exchange Keys with a player of the opposite version to get either Registeel (W2) or Regice (B2). I think you can also get any of them without dealing with Regirock if you trade Keys early.
Anyway, the point is that you can get 2/3 without any other player, and the third just requires access to another player at all, not already having two of them. Regigigas (not Registeel) is the one that requires having caught the others.

Nope, it's local! You just need another player of the opposite version and you can access it from the title screen. Both players need to select Unova Link.

For anyone wanting a legit way to catch them, the online system that fans have set up for GTS and trading/battling also has all the events in mystery gift. You can get the necessary Regigigas and the items for Shaymin and Darkrai.

actually I think you can get all 4 in ORAS, just go to the location of all 3 and catch them and you can get regigas by nicknaming regice and having all three in your party. (dont think any items, events etc are needed but not sure)

I already bought the game. I gave you my money. I should not have had to have bought another game years ago to unlock content that should already be accessible in the base game. They’ve been doing this shit for 20 years and you people just schlorp it up like the dogs you are.

The original question was about DS games only. You can easily get all of them in RSE and USUM, probably ORAS too, but I've never played ORAS.

I'm not sure if the RSE ones activate the Regigigas event in DPPt though.
