they have done a terrible job of keeping the hype going. it's like they are stuck in the 90s. you can't just announce a game and then say nothing for 6 months.

Anon, it hasn't even been 2 months yet. Calm down. We'll have SWSH information overload by E3. This game is coming out in November, so there's no reason for anything significant to be announced now.

Smashfags went 3 whole months without any news regarding Ultimate, and then they got an abundance of news after E3. The same will happen for Pokemon.

We have plenty of outlets for news:

May: CoroCoro and The Pokemon Company
June: CoroCoro and E3
July: CoroCoro and The Pokemon Company
August: Worlds 2019, Gamescom 2019, CoroCoro and The Pokemon Company
September-November: CoroCoro and The Pokemon Company

No reason it has to be one or the other. Just have a set date where they show us some new info every month, including 2 or 3 Pokemon. Even if the dex is as small as gen 6's, that'd still leave us with at least half the dex unknown, assuming a November release.

To be fair Smash isn't really comparable since no one was even expecting a new Smash when it got announced, the reveal itself was enough of a surprise to keep the hype going for months. Meanwhile fans had been waiting for the announcement of a new generation for over a year by the time SS was revealed.

they'll still show literally everything before release though. They did that not only for XY but also for ORAS, SM and USUM, and they all followed the same announcement schedule.

I hate this. Why can they not find a middle ground? Can you even BELIEVE that Pokemon can get away with showing off POSTGAME CONTENT before release? Who even DOES that? Are there ANY video games that do that? I feel like only Pokemon can get away with that but even then it's ludicrous...

I never understood why people complain about this. If you don't want things spoiled for you, then just don't pay attention to the announcements. It's not like it's necessarily GF/TPCi's fault anyways, even if they showed nothing the full dex (and other things) would still end up getting leaked before release like always.

Also, the whole "it just gets leaked anyway so why bother" is a whole other issue. The main point is that media in general has been getting a lot more spoilery lately, and some people don't like it when too much information is put out pre-release because they like actually being surprised in this day and age. The era of social media and all.

And, even beyond that... is it REALLY so ridiculous that some people prefer that they don't show off POSTGAME content before release? Where do we draw the line, then? Some people just don't like getting spoiled, and there's certainly a balance they could find between "showing off nothing at all" versus "showing off practically everything".

It really isn't if you have even a modicum of self control. Sure you'll probably have at least some things leaked to you but it's by no means impossible to avoid the majority of it, hell I did it for gen 6 without even trying to.
