recently i've been running Pokemon US and X for fun
(Politoad and Tyrantrum are my favorites right now) as i play the games i decided to watch the animes that go with them i was watching XY when i stumbled upon episode 40: the pokemon summer camp arc hosted by professor Sycamore. Team Rocket has been disguised as the camp chefs and doing surprisingly well at it they are even given a raise once for their hard work. all the kids praise their food at meal times but It was at 3:53 in episode 40 when Meowth hit me hard. he said:
"Haha even if we got fired from rocket gang we'd get by anywhere"
What if in a single arc Giovonni finally has had enough of the terrible trio (sorry wobbafet you're like the 4th musketeer no one remembers you as being present) and fires Meowth Jessie & James and they go on exploring what to do with their lives as law abiding trainers / jacks of all trades... you could see them performing various tasks from different towns as they used pay from odd jobs to fund their travels. better yet what if during their time as regular people they became ashe's companions they offer to accompany him on some dangerous task or mission as penance for spending the past 20 something years stalking him and his pikachu. It's not entirely unreasonable to think that ashe would allow them to travel with him if they were no longer associated with team rocket and trying to steal pokemon. There are even cases where Ashe sees the greater good and decides to work with them as was the case when madame x showed up likewise jessie james and meowth have shown there are certain lines they won't cross as villains (for example sun and moon memory stealing was a line they declared was unrighteous and would not partake in)
