True, but the more recent you go, the more mons there are, which are based on very specific real world animals. Generations 1 & 2 have many more obscure designs. Gen 3 was the beginning of “literally an animal but it’s a Pokemon” as a trend. Gen 1 has inexcusable stuff like Ponyta obviously, but later gens have a lot more like that.

And then you have shit like this, defend it.Tell me this looks like it would exist in the Pokemon world of old. Tell me if back in 2000 you would've believed this was a new Pokemon. Everything about it is round and soft, even the hair lacks any sort of detail, and is just clay blobs. And it stands alongside Pokemon like Arcanine and Mankey, with extremely detailed fur.

I think you’re assuming a lot, and breaking down an argument into its pieces doesn’t make it any less valid. Generation 1 and 2 have more pokemon that are “monsters” first, and animals second, rather than the other way around. Even though they obviously have mons that are clearly based on specific animals, the number of “ambiguous” monsters has declined in favor of a rise in monsters that are more largely based on a single animal specifically. This is not to say that later generations don’t have ambiguous monster creatures, or that early gens don’t possess ones obviously based on real world animals.

Also yes, Octillery is sort of an example of this. While it is obviously an Octopus, it is not 1-1 an Octopus in build, structure, or function. That’s not to say modern mons are all 1-1 the same as their animal, but that there’s a general tendency in design, for later generations to follow the theme of a particular animal closer, than in the early generations.
Remember: not saying later gens don’t do it.

I feel like I gotta clarify easy to see things for angry people who just wanna yell about “ambiguous” or some shit, and assume a bunch of crap I didn’t say.

And I feel like people just ignore the fact that it's a Pokemon world with multiple regions that have different cultures. The environments are gonna be different and different types of Pokemon are gonna be there that either have the same types of features as old ones or different ones. Plus, all the regions exist at the same time in the Pokemon world, so 'new Pokemon' exist at the same time as 'old Pokemon', they just weren't discovered until much later. Kinda like in the real world how people didn't know about other continents.

Gens 1 - 4 had regions that were all based in different parts of Japan, which is why there is a common feeling and theme there, regardless of whether you like it or not, the connection is there and they're all pretty close.

Gens 5-8 are based on different areas, America, France, and now the UK, which is probably why people are so pissy and pressed about 'nu gen'. They're trying to branch out and do different cultures and make some designs based on the culture of the area, as well as still having some Japanese influence or whatever they want.

Gen 5, Unova, is far away from the other regions and is meant to be a parallel to Gen 1 as a bit of a 'reboot' and was purposely more modern. However, because of this big change, people hated it since they couldn't use any old Pokemon until much later.

Gens 6-7 had less new Pokemon and more of the old Pokemon. Likely because of the backlash of Gen 5. So, they decided to make less Pokemon and focus more on doing extra stuff to older Pokemon (Mega Evolutions/Regional variants), not only because of the backlash, but because they wanted to do something new and different. Regional variants were there since the beginning when we saw a huge necked Exeggutor on one of the old card boxes, and delta species were a thing as well.

I am saying that based on where you live, the cultures may be different and they design Pokemon based on that culture or that area in general.

i.e. Trubbish and Vanillite were first introduced to us in a region based on America, specifically New York. There's a lot of trash in NY, so Trubbish and Garbodor were made. Vanillite's line are icicles and are based on fast food mascots, which are very common in America itself, so they're there as well.

It's like how people look different in specific areas, but can still fit in in other places. Or how different species of animals only live in certain areas or look different depending on where they live or what they were bred with

Gen 5 was the best because it was the only gen that didn't pander to Gen 1. I LOVED that there were no old Pokemon obtainable in the game because it forced you to experiment with new sets of Pokemon you'd never used before, you had to learn everything all over again.
