Hippopotas, Numel and Quagsire. Puzzle a pit of soil, and diggers around its edges. When a digger removes a bucketful of soil, the remaining soil shifts around. You have to determine the correct order to activate the diggers that all of them can fill their buckets.

Normal type, it's the family farm. Ideally I'd be the third gym so I can go a little bit tougher. A shiny Tauros is my ace (caught one recently, have to use it somewhere), Miltank, then a rando Zigzagoon I caught in the trash.
The puzzle is a series of cattle-shoot mazes that you have to navigate by turning switches to close and open hatches. Nothing too difficult, but you do have to beat all four of my (kinda weak) trainers to get to me.

I'd specialize in Fire/Water/Grass types, and depending on the type of the starter the trainer challenging me chose, I'd use the same type. Think of it like a mirror match.

Example:
>Kid chooses a Grass starter
>I challenge him with a team of Grass Types
>A different kid chose the fire starter
>I pull out my Fire Team

I'd basically be testing them with the same type they themselves chose, to test their understanding of it.

I'd be the first or second gym or so, and my "ace" would be the evolved form of whatever the other guy picked.

Example:
>Grass Kiddo picked a Bulbasaur
>His final challenge in my gym is a Ivysaur
>Fire Kid's starter is Litten
>I use a Torracat on him instead

The other two pokemon on my team would be regional types, like Pumpkaboo and Lileep for grass, Salandit and Larvesta for fire, and Dewpider and Wooper for water. They'd have decent moves, nothing too hard but not easy either. Like, Salandit would use Toxic and Nasty Plot, Dewpider would have sticky web, and Pumpkaboo would have Trick-or-Treat and Shadow Sneak, Seed Bomb and Flamethrower.

Depending on the type of the starter, I'd also change up my TM. I'd give Giga Drain, Incinerate or Brine. Puzzles would be questions about how they train or care for their pokemon and testing their knowledge of types, with the player getting stuff like berries on a correct answer (they'd still have to fight the other guy though).

All in all I like the idea of an early game gym that tests you in the same type you started the game with, and challenges you with the middle form of your starter like a 'taste' of what's to come.

I got this idea from Y, actually since I noticed that I always picked Bulbasaur and in every playthrough that turned the Grass gym into a mirror match, since he uses a Venusaur as well. I really liked that so I thought it'd be cool if other games did it as well, but changed it up for your starter.

Ground type gym 2, with a Gible, Hippopotas, and Sandile. TM would be Sandstorm.
To get to me, you have to cross rivers of fast-moving sand and complete puzzles, ala the Ruins of Alph. Messing them up would lead to a trainer battle.
Rematch team would be Flygon, Hippowdon, Garchomp-Mega, Krookodile, Palossand, and Quagsire.

Challenge Mode gives my first pineco a focus sash, and scyther eviolite.

Oh forgot my puzzle - trainers have to scurry through hollow logs, behind rocks, in bushes etc. like bugs to avoid being sent back to the front of the gym. Basically Skyla’s gym in BW2 but bug theme.

Dark type. My gimmick is 1v1's.
You can only bring one pokemon into the gym with you.
Gym is a private eye's office building, film noire style with smoke, and dim lighting from blinded windows.
"Puzzle" is a coinflip, you call heads or tails. Win and you get fully healed, lose and you face a trainer. You must face three trainers before I become the trainer you face on a lost call.
My only pokemon is Absol.

I guess I'm now also the meteorologist that shows up on tv with a seasonal deerling.

The player has now learned a teensy bit about weather mechanics, and they likely fought against me with a weather setting that benefited their starter or some random early route grass mon. The player is also now primed to expect weather and seasons to have an effect outside of battle, but will more than likely just be disappointed.

I'm gonna go with Psychic Type Specialization. I like Normal and Grass Types, but Psychic could use some love in this thread and the supernatural/paranormal has always been a consistent interest of mine throughout my life- despite never being convinced of it.

Just a basic bitch "guess the correct path out of three possible ways to advance", nothing special. Every wrong choice has a trainer behind it.

I'm also under the impression that as a Gym leader I have to provide some sort of public service to the community or local government inbetween battling pokemon and so forth. Like how the other Psychic Gyms double as planetariums or observatories- I think Sabrina's is just a straight up PSI research center? With that in mind I wana say I'd go with... "Furthering the understand of the influence psychic phenomena has on nature, people, and Pokemon." Just so I can have a more natural, kind of subdued 'occultic' aesthetic. I don't want people coming in being intimidating by LABRATORY or SPACE design. I want them curious and enthralled by the world of Psychic Pokemon- like Joe Rogan when he listen to and tries to understand some physicist or historian.

Water/ground Marsh/swamp themed gym depending on the weather outside:

The gym becomes a water type gym. The swamp is slightly flooded. Some paths are no longer accessible and new trainers are available to fight. Water types are used, but no fish/marine pokemon. Surskit and the like are used instead.

The gym is dry and arid with cracked mudded floors; the swampy water is drained and the other paths used to fight the water trainers are no longer accessible. This route offers some ground-type trainers who comment on the changing dynamic of the gym and how diverse the terrain is.

Gym leader's team changes according to the type configuration of the gym. His Ace is always something from the tympole line. For the second gym badge, he'd use a palpitoad

so: palpitoad, barboach, yanma for water gym
palpitoad, hippopotas, yanma

For rain: rain dance is used as the first move
For no rain: sandstorm is used as the first move

what's your puzzle?

Very basic navigation. There are hollow logs in the main area of the gym. With rain, these float and create pathways to higher areas. Without rain, the layout on the dried floor creates a simple maze to navigate through.
