During battle, your opponent's side of the field is obscured. You cannot see the opposing pokemon (or hear their cries), but you can see what moves they use and what abilities they've activated, along with anything that isn't directly telling you what your opponent is (stuff which indirectly confirms information, like seeing Wonder Guard activate, is fine). Frontier Brain would have a wide variety of potential mons, all with heavily overlapping movepools. To lower the RNG factor, a pre-fight informant could exist, a la the Battle Factory, who tells you something about your opponent's team (giving less and less info the further your run goes).
