I actually think that Pichu could carry the franchise, that is assuming Pikachu doesn't exist. Pichu is considerably more marketable than Raichu or any other Pikaclone.

You forgot to include the effect. Assuming Pokemon did take off with him as the mascot I could see a lot more food-mons kind of like Pikaclones. Also more mood advertisements

Series gets more Eevee shilling than it already has, I think it would survive. Espeon is pretty cute and appealing in design. Maybe it would appeal to girls more because it's pink-purpleish.

Started as a Kirby spinoff character from some kind of minigame that became really popular, and so a whole series was created based on it. Would probably only ever get 2 generations, with the majority of the sprites from the beta version, along with evolutions (pic related).

I don't know. I always thought that he really benefited from people being familiar with the concept of Pokemon, and therefore being more accepting of the quirky aspects of their designs like Greninja's tongue scarf, so if you took that out of the equation, i don't think he'd be that good of a representative. Could be wrong, though.

Porygon was barely on camera when the seizures happened.
It was Thunderbolt - From Pikachu, aimed at non-living missiles from Team Rocket - that triggered them.

It could've happened in an episode about Rhydon even.
