>>38438372See, to me, that feels like cheating - not in the literal sense, but in the sense that I've given up, can't make do with what I have and want to make it easier by using a crutch.
I don't enjoy raising a Pokémon for just one encounter and then dropping it - I always stick with a Pokémon for the whole game, even if that makes for something of a self-imposed challenge. (At one point, I severely underestimated how bad Kricketune and Chimecho would ultimately be and used both of them on the same team, but I found it more fun to deal with it and work around their flaws than I would have to drop them - that just feels like failing - and Chimecho in particular wasn't even THAT bad until the League.)
... But... I'm also not OP, and I also don't complain when a battle poses an actual semblance of challenge.
USUM's Totems were ideal for me, ESPECIALLY when I found myself caught off guard or without the right team members and actually had a hard time. For Totem Araquanid, the only team members I had with me were Torracat, Rockruff and a freshly caught Dewpider - and it was *way* more fun and memorable to balance Rockruff's offensive advantage with its weakness to Water and play the others as support than to wreck it with a type advantage. I was obviously aware that I *could* get a Flying-type, but come on, guys - it's exceedingly rare that we have a challenging boss battle in Pokémon. If the circumstances and my own lack of foresight align to give me an interesting puzzle of a battle like that... why would I even want to make it easier??
