Xenoblade series. Dark Souls (mostly). Dragon Quest XI. Persona 5. Final Fantasy had great backgrounds on PS1, and PS2 games were good for their times. XV looked good, though the open world kinda sucked. Fucking Tales games at least look pretty, despite level design taking a dip recently. Golden Sun looked great on GBA, and even the DS wasn't too shabby.

My critique is that they can afford to and should expand a bit so we don't run into another incomplete game situation. The graphics are only the most immediate visual indication of the level of quality to be expected. Enough to fly by on an initial look, but much weaker on closer inspection.

The precedence set sense X and Y is what's got me most worried. I suspect that they simply can't handle it at this size, and have relied on gimmicks and nostalgic appeal to cover up the widening cracks. A series of this success and caliber deserves to be at least up to the standards of its fucking copy cats. At the very least.
