It's stating the obvious, but do you really expect a game with such a target audience to change to be good for you? We all just play because we like the Pokémon, we have fond memories of it, the core concept of being a trainer and adventuring the world is great, and we like ranting about this on this board. And the game will be the same as always always, and it repeat on Gen IX, Gen X, and so on. It's been like this ever since Ruby and Sapphire.

If they're the same as S/M I suggest playing through at an incredibly slow pace. That way you can enjoy it as it's meant to be played.
