Wasn't the only reason it got closed for DS/Wii because it was run by some third party that shut down, also taking online access for fucktons of other systems too?

They ban you from their servers, not make your 3DS unable to use wifi, if someone hosted a Private server such as Altwfc you'd be able to connect
That said idk if people will be able to host private servers for the 3DS, but considering Nintendo's meme security i bet it's just a matter of time until someone figures something out

DS to 3DS will always be technically possible with a hacked 3DS, but once the servers shut down, we're out of luck going from 3DS to Switch (unless Switch gets cracked wide open, which could happen before SWSH)

The 3DS (theoretically) has the ability to link up to a Switch in the same way it could connect to the WiiU. No Switch has used that functionality, but it can be done.

Bank is a unique online service right? So as long as bank is a thing, any services to do with it (transporter) should work as long as your 3DS has access to wifi?

Kinda like how PSN is unified and works across PS3, Vita, PS4, even though the first two are essentially dead?

I assume that no too long after SS are released, they'll release a Switch version of Bank. Wouldn't the 3DS and Switch version just connect to the same servers, ensuring that the 3DS will keep working as long as the Switch version does?

its gamefreak, 100% guarantee that theyre gonna be completely separate services with different restrictions and compatibility and theres gonna be some obtuse transfer tool youll need to use to bring things over from 3ds
maybe theyll even have some arbitrary 1 box/hour restriction on it in a desperate attempt to prevent the servers from crashing when they first go up, which both will not even slightly work and will never be removed after it is no longer needed

You need a DS with a GBA slot to transfer up from gen 3, it wouldn't be the first time they've required discontinued hardware to transfer.

You can still transfer though from gen 3. And everyone who played those gens would have to have a DS and 3ds in the first place.
