What's the definitive Pokémon game?

Treat this series as any other RPG franchise. If you were to recommend one (1) Pokémon game from the main series, based on the amount of content and overall single-player experience, which game would you say is the definitive one?

But if I was recommending it to someone who had somehow never played a Pokemon game even as a child, and was barely familiar with the series apart from knowing Pikachu, I would probably go with USUM. It has a slick interface, an okay story, and lots of QoL stuff like pressing Y to save. Plus you can catch like 600 Pokemon.

Probably Platinum. Crystal and BW2 are great games but they are a packaged deal with their prequels to appreciate the full experience. Platinum has a good amount of content and is challenging relative to other games. Has the physical/special split unlike Emerald which better prepares you for the newer games. Good place to start imo.

I can’t take anyone seriously who says a game before Gen 4.
Gen 3 games were fine entries into the franchise, but the physical/special split was way too good to pass up.
Gen 1/2 are good for what they are, but pale in comparison to their remakes.
HGSS is probably the definitively best Pokémon experience.

Why is Gen IV so slow? When you OHKO something, it takes a long time for the HP to drop to zero. Really annoying.
