How do I beat this fucking cunt? Her Kingdra just floors my pokemon. They're mid 30s so they should stand a chance but apparently not. Everything was going smoothly too.

I used Gengar. He seemed to work rather well. If things are going poorly, in either game she has nothing that can really deal with a grass or electric type. You could always try catching one of those, though it might take a little while to grind it up. Good luck anon.

Clair's a tough one for me, too. The soundest advice I've read is to have something with high Special Defense, either naturally or spamming X Special Defends and praying a critical hit never hapens.

Lapras might be a decent choice, since it's fairly bulky, resists/is immune to Kingdra's water attacks, and has an Ice-type to neutrally damage it. You can even use Perish Song if you don't mind the cheese.

To be honest, I think the game is smooth sailing and fair with it's difficulty up until Clair. I remember one playthrough I cheesed with Miltank Rollout. Elite Four is an understandable bump as well but that's intentional obviously.

yeah I'm an idiot and forgot about that, and I did that fight relatively recently so that's extra embarrassing
now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I used thunder wave to paralyze it, and then either switched to feraligatr to use crunch or ice fang, or I just kept using discharge with flaaffy. either way I was around 5 levels weaker and relied on good rng to beat her

OP here. I just used X Items. Taught my Typhlosion Solar Beam and Sunny Day, and just swept the team. Feels bittersweet, but HG/SS doesn't feel grind friendly, and I just wanted to beat the gym

Wow your team is fucking awful. Furret is the only thing you have that doesnt get obliterated right off the bat and furret sucks ass lol. My best advice to you is abuse double team and items like x-special defend to lame out the kingdra.

Use your Cloyster first and set Toxic Spikes, then Aurora Beam on the Dragonairs and Supersonic on Kingdra. Your Typhlosion and Rhyhorn might not do shit against Kingdra, so you can use them to revive more reliable mons.
But I’ve got to tell you, I don’t remember having to build a strategy in order to defeat Clair.

The red Gyarados, if you caught it, knows Ice Fang a few levels above what you catch it at, useful for the Dragon types.

I remember being lucky to catch Raikou with a Quick Ball in SoulSilver, but any fairly strong Electric type should cover her Gyarados

Kingdra is by far the hardest pokemon to go through in Gen 2/4, this was before fairies were introduced so only dragon types/moves could blow through it.
