Buzzwords: The Movie: The Experience

Why are all of the reviewers so prentious? I'm not saying the movie is good. But moat of the negative reviews seem be the same complaints about not understanding.

After going through all the reviews I've noticed it's really only "top critics" that have given it bad scores, while the majority praise it.

The 15 to 7 good rate seems pretty good for a start, and the 15 doesn't even count the official Gaming sites that also reviewed the movie.(all of which were positive)

The most common excuse for bad reviews is "it's like a kids cartoon" "it's a rip off of Deadpool" "there's no deep story" and "I don't know anything about the world, why does only Deadpool talk?"

Are movie critics always this uneducated and cynical?
I usually deal with Video Games.

That's because most of those reviews are written by people who were too old to understand Pokémon when it first launched. Any of the younger set of reviewers have no such problems.

First time seeing what film critics are like? This is always the case they are some of the most pretentious people out there. And on top of that you gotta remember how much old people disliked pokemon go being everywhere so they're is a predisposition to not like the franchise (and if you read the reviews most of the negative ones reference pokemon go, often poorly)

That review is full of empty and contradictory statements, frenzied and sluggish? How the fuck is that even possible? Overstuffed and underwritten? Again what? This adult baby must be the sole reason why the "pick one" meme exists.
How to be a decent movie critic:
- Don't demand to much from clearly easygoing films.
- If it's set in an established universe do a minimum effort to learn about it.
- Tone down you're entitlement. Now that with your job you're in a position of power and your words can unleash negative consequences (the actor who originally played Jarjar Binks tried to kill himself because manchild critics couldn't stand that kids liked him and didn't see an equivalent role between him and the ewoks, family friendly sidekicks).
- Buzzwords can loose all meaning if there's nothing of substance to back them because you will only come across as a pretentious and opinionated person.
-Don't be Alonso Pick-one Duralde.

The movie has way too many references to the world of the games to be aimed at pokemon go players, hell sinnoh of all things seems to get a good chunk of love. Likely since TPCi had a hand in it is why it has so many references to the actual games but I wouldn't even call it completely genwun pandering even let alone go pandering. A good chunk of the like 60 pokemon in the movie aren't even out in go, even when they clearly could have used tauros instead of bouffalant and what not.

Making the jump to live action is a perfectly good reason to explain whatever needs explaining, it's not like pokemon is that complex it would take a couple minutes max. I think where most of the flaws come from are with the theme of the movie, but other movies dealing with the exact same theme tend to have issues too, because no one in hollywood actually seems to understand how it works
Endgame was still good despite having a few inconsistencies

I know it's a meme to hate on capeshit movies, but most on the Marvel side fall from good to mediocre with very few of them actually being really bad. Then again, you're calling Detective Pikachu shit without even seeing it, so you probably didn't bother to watch Endgame either.

I agree with everything else but this is bullshit. Adaptations need to stand by their own. Not saying DP did it, we will have to wait and see if it's the movie itself or just a dumbass that didn't get it, but don't put it up as a rule.

The reasons:
-The producers/special interests didn't pay them to give the movie good reviews
-Pokemon in the movies (not the anime movies) aren't as universally loved as the MCU/Marvel yet so they can't bandwagon on it's popularity and give good reviews to look hip and cool
-Doesn't pander to their brand of identity politics. (I guess Justice Smith being the lead wasn't enough.

And c'mon, Civil War was shit. The concept is awesome, but they barely developed the moral question, the actual "Civil War" was just a quick, underwhelming fight at the airport, and the "antagonist" made zero sense.
I do like some of the MCU, but Civil War was a total mess.

The idea of putting together a bunch of movies in a single universe is awesome, yes, but the outcome isn't that good when half of the movies are "meh", and even the "reunion" movies aren't really impressive (the first 2 Avengers are mediocre, and Civil War is just bad).

There's probably a sliver of truth there, but that doesn't apply to everyone. On topic, I think DP is scoring as it good. It's gonna be an entertaining and novel movie with some decent action and good chemistry between its co-stars that lacks a solid or cohesive narrative. Stuff that could easily be fixed in sequels etc.
