I only played vega minus, which is Vega but with the gym leaders nerfed, and it was still a bitch to play. in vega original, route mons before 2nd gymm will be around level 10; 2nd gym leader has level 23mon.

Clover was surprisingly challenging, and not in a cheap way. There's like 2 or 3 cheap fights in the game, but they're memes. I'm currently playing through Vega and Blazed Glazed, both of which are challenging as well.

This. Don’t play vanilla Vega it fucking sucks. You will be grinding against shitmon forever. Vega minus also removes the Pokédex requirements for the final boss, where you would have to capture ~15 Pokémon with 1% encounter rates, some of which multiples are needed for branching evolutions and ingame trades. This game is incredibly autistic.

the 2nd gym is nerfed from 23 to 21 on their highest mon
slightly worse movesets
still very challenging; 2nd gym leader in minus has a hitmonchan and a nidoking that can both easily 1-2shot your team
