In Smash he's at his best, but his design in the main games feels too unlike a pokemon because it's so unnatural compared to a lot of the other creatures or even the other two starters. He looks like some fursona more than a pokemon, but in Smash he's able to show off his personality a lot better and you can really see how he's a fun character, but a fun character isn't a good pokemon design by default. He's just too human-like and I can't imagine how that thing managed to evolve into what it is in the wild. Do all Incineroars have wrestling belts? Did they look like that when humanity discovered them? Are they the origin of wrestling itself or are they just coincidentally able to perfectly look like a pro-heel? It's just too weird, but in Smash you can put those questions aside and just have fun with his goofy nature, so in smash he's at is best.
