While peak Pokemon was the DS era, I really miss the gen 1-2 and even early gen 3 days. It was such a better time, when there was still hope for the series

For me the thing that does it is 100% the TCG. Maybe some of the books, but never the games.
But looking back on that old card art, it really shows a static product of another time. Especially the Keiji Kinebuchi cards, like Magnemite.

The sparkle on the cover of this is nice but it's a shame it doesn't add much over the red non-collector's edition one. Still nice to have though.

I prefer the DS ones (Gen 5 in particular) but I love looking back on what the series used to be. I know people bash nostalgiafagging a lot but it really does feel good opening an old Pokemon book or browsing my cards.
