>>38503238Because SM performs visual gags/slapstick/references/reaction, personality, or emotion-based comedy leagues better than previous seasons and people can't stand having their their favorite dethroned in any aspect so they try to downplay it as a bad thing.
The "le funny meme face xd" is the actual meme, not the gags itself, spread around by XY-gen folk who are still upset that their precious "shounen: featuring cool and competent protag" is being proceeded by a more casual and whimsical take on the franchise.
They can't tell me that the animators putting more effort into jokes and character emoting is a bad thing, especially when they throw in the occasional style-shift to reference other anime styles. It's just a fun and chill anime to wind down with, and they hate that we're currently having fun and they have to wait patiently for their turn next season when Pokemon inevitably reverts to the standard "art"-"style". It's a temper tantrum, essentially.
