>>38495172>Buffing certain types would fall into that same thingNope. It's not necessary, it effects the Pokémon you meet in the dungeons as well and you can pay to change the type it affects before entering a dungeon.
>Gates was a massive fucking mess all aroundMost of its new ideas were great, and most of those good ideas were well implemented. The real problems are the slow text speed (the rest of the game is the fastest in the series, yes, even faster than Super, because the latter doesn't allow you to skip move animations), only being able to do one mission at a time, almost everything being way too easy and the worst flaw, the lack of content, especially when compared to the other games. Lack of Pokémon, lack of mechanics, lack of dungeon variety. These flaw bring the whole game down and make it a contender for the worst game in the series (along with Adventure Squad, which has the opposite problem: tons of content, but everything else is bad).
tl;dr Gates to Infinity isn't a good game, but it has a lot of good things they should bring back.
>That's coming from someone who bought it Day 1, before they even owned a 3DS and was looking forward to it more than anything.I had a very similar experience. I ended up being disappointed with it when it comes to the gameplay and the technical aspects. I kept playing and I figured out all of the game's strengths and flaws because I wanted to figure out what was wrong with it, and I did.
