Pokemom RS came out two years before FRLG. Upon its release people had no idea there was a gen 1 remake inbound and yet they still enjoyed the games and reception was positive.
Pokemon DP came out in 2006. Pokemon HGSS came out in 2009. When DP was released, in that entire three year period, people did not clamor for Kanto or hate the games because they couldnt use muh genwun Pokemon.
