for starters pokemon was a huge phenomenon right when it came out and mario had nothing on that level. it then petered out and a lot of people factually dropped the franchise, which can be seen in sales numbers.
as of the second false equivalency mario and luigi are the most recognizable because they're the protagonists, the forefront of the series. pokemon doesn't employ a protagonist system and is instead a generetional franchise that cycles through new pokemon, and the categories of pokemon that are pushed the most are entirely derivative of marketing strategies: pokemon doesn't -have- to favor one gen over the other but it does because of that's what makes more sense marketing wise.
I also never said that every gen 1 fan is a fad jumper, just that it's only the most recognizable because of normalfag fad culture.
