>>38519372The design barely works with the concept and Dewott doesn’t even do anything to prepare you for the transition. It just happens. A quadrupedal swordsman just doesn’t work as well if it has to actually wield its weapons, and the anime shows how awkward it looks when it tries to do so.
I like to compare this line to Litten’s because they follow a similar, if inverted, evolution process. Except in that case, Torracat actually stands up during its animations and shows that its upper body is larger so when Incineroar appears it’s a larger Torracat that can actively stand up. Its theme also complements it as a result.
Dewott doesn’t do this at all and the body type of Samurott is too different. The design shift is way too abrupt and the concept doesn’t quite look right as a result. It looks like it’s about to tip over like an imbalanced toy when it uses its weapons. It’s a strange as fuck design choice when we already got four other quadrupedal swordsmen within the same generation.
