no one ever likes base versions because they're so bare, and people hate third versions because they're literally the same game. i wish GameFreak would put all the content in the base versions and remakes and outright say they aren't doing the upper versions scam anymore, but money is money. why make a new game when you can fix up an old one and sell it for full price?
