Just like most things, girls only cared about Pokemon because it was popular. Genuine female Pokemon fans are usually fucked up in some way or just really ugly so I'd avoid them

It was.. nothing special? We liked it just the same as boys, I don't know what to tell you. I remember having a small poster that you completed with little cardboard pictures that came with the cookies.. I never actually managed to complete it. Found it some years ago and it was fun seeing how the typechart was all wrong.
As for my school, we were actually more into Digimon back then, specifically the "tolas" and "tazos". We would challenge each other with those and bet with candies. Everyone had a big collection of both and we would brag with that.

Wasn't much different than being a guy, I'd imagine. I was born in '93 so when the craze hit I think most kids my age were still a little too young to start separating into groups by gender; we all just did everything together. If anything, my mom was the one who was most bothered; she's always been very "these are 'boy interests' and these are 'girl interests' and ne'er the twain shall meet." So really the only big difference I can see was how my mother reacted to it. As I got a little older the problem became not about gender but just the fact that a lot of kids had moved on and I hadn't, so I sometimes got picked on for still liking Pokémon because it wasn't "cool" anymore.

Didn’t really feel different, I assume. I liked Pokémon for as long as I can remember, but I for some reason thought that mainline games would be too hard for me until I finally got Ruby. I only played side games til that point, my favorite being Pokémon Snap (though I really liked Ranger and Mystery Dungeon.) I just liked everything but normal Pokémon battles at the time.
I wasn’t made fun of for it as a kid or anything, and you could play as a girl in most of the games so I was happy with it

Actually, if anything, I was more accepted for being a girl (in middle school at least), and often got offered legendaries just for existing.

I was born halfway through the 90's, so Pokémon was at gen 3 by the time I played through my first game (Emerald) I don't recall ever being treated any differently but that's probably because it wasn't that big when I started playing and no one gave a shit anymore anyway

I do remember unknowingly resetting my brothers game on Blue when I was like 4 because I was a retard child

it was normal. I've always been mocked as a child for liking boy's stuff and only had 1 friend in middle school. I played Pokémon with my dad and was more invested in it than every other kid I knew. my fav has always been nidoking and my favorite anime characters were the team Rocket trio. I still don't have many friends nowadays and am basically a femcel but at least I still got Pokémon.
