Platinum is really good. It may be built on poor foundation, but damn did they do a good job of fixing what they could.
Heart Gold / Soul Silver are possibly the best games in the franchise. They also manage to be one of the best remakes ever (a couple changes were not as good, and they kept a few things a bit too faithful to the originals that should have been changed).
Best spin off games in the entire franchise. So many different kinds, and all manage to be pretty good.
Can't really comment on the Anime / Movies as I didn't really watch them.
Overall I do think it was a very good generation, managing to be better then Gen 3, but maybe not as good as 5.
