It's only fun when all three starters have something to contribute which is flat out not true in anything past gen 1.

fire and grass starters in 2 have shit bst distribution and movepools
fire is a death sentence in gen 3 with all that fucking water
grass and fire are even more worthless in gen 4 thanks to new special/physical split
grass has a shit movepool yet again in gen 5
fire and grass have bad BST distrubtion and small movepools in gen 6
Grass has 7 weaknesses with crap speed and defense with tons of generic pokemon able to learn several moves of those typings
Fire is only good because of it's hidden ability

If you want a good time, pick a water starter, if you hate yourself pick a grass starter and if you want life on the hard mode pick a fire starter, running all three is just intentionally giving your team more weaknesses

Fire, Water and Grass complement each other extremely well, to the point where even in competitive play it's a common core.
Playing a game with all 3 starters is an instant easy mode.
