the battle zones based off of Sakhalin which according to a census in 2010 has almost 500,000 people living there, most of which being ethnic russians.
i do agree that while i think shes probably russian there could also be a good chance shes asian because lots of sakhalin has a sizeable asian minority.

Japanese people give foreigners Japanese names all the time, especially half Japanese. Doesn't matter if they grew up in America, Germany, Britain, etc. their entire life and never had their Japanese parent around, they have a Japanese name and know perfect Japanese (which characters even bring up).

This is Pokemon, not real life. In Pokemon, people are given names according to where they're from. The people from Aether were given German plant names. Kalosians have French plant names (or Japanese names of French plant names). Unovans have mostly plant names from North and South America, but they also have other plants as well. Alolans have Hawaiiian plant names. It is important to note that Shirona is the Japanese name of a plant (Nandina) that grows natively in Asia, from the Himalayan mountains to Japan. So at the very fucking least, she is Asian. Cynthia has no ties to any European nation. Her skin is pale-skinned because she is from a very northern region where there isn't a lot of sunlight. Her hair is either dyed blonde or is anime blonde, meaning she is Japanese despite her hair color.

Where is YOUR evidence that "she's Russian?" There's none!

Lt. Surge's name is Mathis in Japan, that's a French name despite him being American, and living in Japan. Also I never said she was Russian, I said she was half American, because she lives there and doesn't seem to be natively from Sinnoh based on context we got with her in the games.

Diantha isn't, her name is derived from a Greek Word for Carnations and the plant is primarily a Mediterranean Plant that just happened to be cultivated over 2,000 years across Europe, it wasn't originally native to France. Alder is a good example too as his name comes from both a plant and a Moth, neither of which are found in North America.

What if she's Poke-Asian and just has a wild hair color like cilan, steven, or mallow. In this series hair color is not a very good indicator of a character's origin aside from who their parents were (i.e. how we found out lussmine fucked a bean man). Skin tone can also larhely be thrown out since Kiawe, Mallow, and Lana all came from the same damn region, two of which are almost as dark/darker than Iris, and the other is whiter than Misty. The best indications of culture/place of origin in this series has been clothing, and even that barely helps half the time.
As far as this thread goes, I'd assume Cynthia would have SOME european at least were she real, the light eyes and slim body would suggest so. But it is likely that she is mostly asian in descent, but that just doesn't show through as much aside from her being flat as a board. Even then, many asians are whiter than a south dakota trailer piglet so there's really no way to tell. If you guys want to discuss names, go ahead, but I don't think you'll be getting anywhere
